The increased and critical need for healthcare workers in the United States is pushing healthcare employers to increasingly seek out international qualified nurses. However, for any foreign nurse to apply to work in the U.S., they must first pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN exam). The NCLEX exam makes it possible for international nurses to obtain the necessary qualification to work as a RN in the United States. It is important to know that there are many states and centers that offer the NCLEX exam and that each state has its own individual requirements for applicants. It can be difficult to know which option is best to choose. That is why we created this list of the top Five states in the USA best for taking the NCLEX exam.
From an experienced and helpful State Board of Nursing, to the cost friendly fees and fast processing times, each state has its own unique positive attributes that were taken into consideration to create this list. Along with that, these five states do not require a Social Security Number to apply, take or renew the NCLEX.
#5 Texas
The Lone Star State is tried and true! Once again, this state makes our top 5 list because time and time again we see nurses successfully receive their license after taking the NCLEX.
#4 Washington
Known for the coffee, rain, and trees, Washington should also be noted for their internationally friendly team and process. The Washington Board of Nursing has a foreign educated specialist who specifically helps nurses outside of the U.S. Their team is anxious to help nurses get started!
#3 Idaho
Making the list is Idaho. From their potato fields to their internationally friendly process, you cannot go wrong with the great state of Idaho. The application fee is cost friendly and they accept a range of credential evaluations and English proficiency exams.
#2 Wisconsin
The cheese state keeps it simple for their nurses. The Wisconsin Board of Nursing only has 3 steps for their nurses: submit the application, send a Certification Program from CGFNS, and pass the NCLEX. Before you know it, you will be on your way working as a RN in the U.S.
#1 Minnesota
Known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes”, this midwestern state has a first-rate Board of Nursing with internationally educated requirements. They accept a wide range of English proficiency exams, their application fee is inexpensive, and their processing time is 5 business days once all documents are received. That is a quicker processing time than most U.S Boards of Nursing!
